The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation members have arrested a 34-year-old alleged vehicle tyre company fraudster on Wednesday, 5 May 2021.
On 23 March 2021, the suspect allegedly contacted one of the tyre shops in Polokwane and requested a quotation for assorted vehicle tyres amounting to R876 000.00. It is further alleged that the tyre shop was presented with a purchase order form purporting to be from the Department of Health.
The manager became suspicious and called the department to verify the order which the department denied having knowledge of. The authorities were notified and the suspect was arrested when he came to collect the tyres.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 7 May 2021 to face fraud charges.
