The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Thobeka Jozi has welcomed the hefty sentences imposed by the Polokwane High Court on Friday 16 March 2018, to four convicts who were found guilty of robbing a cash depot of approximately R11 million rand in December 2015.
On 9 December 2015, a group of armed suspects, Moshe Moses Mogashane (43) Ndwamato Jeffery Maphaki (53), Papiki David Komane (33), and Kgabo Elias Mpheroane (39),stormed into the G4 Security Company Depot in Marble Hall and threatened staff and security before they made off with about R11 million.
The vehicle of the suspects was later spotted and a chase ensued until it was cornered in Pretoria and two accused, Mogashane and Maphaki were arrested and over one million rand in cash was recovered. Further investigation led the Hawks to the arrest of Komane who was a police Constable stationed at Marble Hall SAPS and Mpheroane who worked for G4 security in Marble Hall.
The group was convicted on 26 January 2018 on charges of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances and duly sentenced last week Friday.
Mogashane and Ndoamato were sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment whilst Komane and Mpheroane were sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment.
Major General Thobeka Jozi welcomed the sentences and thanked all role players in the investigation. “We would like to thank the investigation team as well as the NPA for working tirelessly to ensure that these criminals are locked away for a very long time. We hope these sentences will serve as a deterrent to the criminals,” she said.
