R1 million worth of counterfeit goods discovered in Polokwane

Authorities in Polokwane in Limpopo have recovered counterfeit goods worth R1 million in an operation.

Police, along with the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation’ Commercial Crime Unit, along with inspectors from the Department of Health and clothing brand holders, conducted the operation on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Captain Matimba Maluleke said that one suspect had been identified and that goods had been confiscated. The 39-year-old suspect had not yet been charged as police were still following process in order to charge him for contravention of the counterfeit goods Act.

The goods, discovered in a warehouse, included counterfeit shoe polishes, shaving blades, playing cards, sneakers, pens, cosmetics and sexual enhancement capsules.

Maluleke said police had 21 days to charge the suspect.
