Pule Shayi has been re-elected as the African National Congress (ANC) Norman Mashabane regional chairperson for a third term, securing victory by approximately 50 votes over his rival. His slate also swept all top five leadership positions during the conference.
Addressing delegates, Shayi acknowledged the ANC’s declining voter support in recent elections but expressed confidence in recovery. “We need a united front to regain lost ground,” he said, emphasizing reconnecting with communities and improving service delivery.
Shayi outlined plans to tackle poverty and water shortages, stating, “Our district suffers the most deprivation, so our programs must prioritize water security and household access.”
ANC Provincial Chairperson echoed these sentiments in his closing remarks, urging the new leadership to unite and deliver services. “Our electoral losses stem from failing to act—when people need water and jobs, we must provide,” he said.
Meanwhile, the ANC’s Peter Mokaba regional conference, postponed due to disputes, has been rescheduled for May 16-18.
