The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba hailed the swift reaction by the Police in Malamulele outside Giyani under the Vhembe District for arresting a 63- year-old suspect in connection with the murder of his 55-year-old wife on Saturday, 6 February 2021 at Mbhalati village. The suspect was arrested on the night of 9 February 2021, at about 19.00 in his hideout in an unoccupied house at Tshimbupve village in the Vuwani Policing area outside Thohoyandou.

His arrest follows an incident where on this fateful day, a quarrel allegedly ensued between the suspect and his second wife, Tsakani Joyce Maswanganyi at about 19:30. The suspect then produced his licensed firearm and shot the deceased several times.

The police were summoned and on arrival, the suspect had already fled from the scene. The firearm that was allegedly used in the murder, was found and confiscated.

The Preliminary police investigations revealed that the motive for the incident may be related to domestic violence.

The Provincial Commissioner has also commended the Team of Detectives who made this milestone achievement in arresting the suspect.

“The arrest of the suspect within a short space of time of the occurrence of the incident, must be seen as a clear evidence of our commitment in the fight against Gender Based Violence and Femicide, “Concluded General Ledwaba.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Malamulele Magistrate’s Court on 11 February 2021.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
