A 48 year old man was arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition by the special task team from the Provincial Flash Unit which was established to trace and hunt down all the security companies which are still possessing illegal firearms across the Province.

These concerted efforts by the police in the province, is aimed at eliminating all the possibilities of criminals accessing these firearms and continue committing violent crimes through the use of the same firearms.

During this operation in the Thohoyandou Cluster, a total of 108 firearms and 134 rounds of ammunition were confiscated from 19 closed down security companies and subsequently, this suspect was arrested.

The recovered firearms and ammunition will be destroyed after proper procedures are completed. The arrested suspect will appear before the Thohoyandou Magistrates’ court soon and more arrests are expected.
