In a major breakthrough, law enforcement agencies confiscated dagga worth an estimated R1.3 million and arrested a 43-year-old male suspect during a joint operation in the Letsitele policing area of Mopani District on Tuesday, 17 June 2025.

The operation was conducted by a multi-disciplinary team comprising the Mopani Tracking Team, SAPS Maake Task Team, Private K9 Anti-Hijacking, Haenertsburg Neighbourhood Watch, Hoshani Security, Letaba Security, and E2 Cross Province.

Authorities acted on intelligence about a white Jetta suspected of transporting dagga from Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) to Zimbabwe. A swift operation was launched to locate the vehicle, which was later spotted along the R529 road in Mafarana Village.

Upon searching the vehicle, the team discovered 10 compressed bales of dagga weighing 217.2 kilograms, with an estimated street value of R1.3 million. The suspect was immediately arrested for illegal drug dealing, and the dagga was seized as evidence.

The accused is set to appear before the Ritavi Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 19 June 2025, facing charges related to drug dealing. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
