Police nab 5 suspects with illegal firearms, Maake

A joint operation by various Police units, focusing on suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms resulted in the arrest of five male suspects aged between 23 and 35 on Tuesday, 20 June 2023 at one of the local petrol stations in Maake area.

The team comprising of Tzaneen Crime Intelligence, Mopani Tracing team, Flying squad, Tactical Response Team and TTT received a tip-off from Organised Crime about the suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition heading to Mpumalanga province, they then followed the information and pounced on five suspects at the local filing station, the suspects’ motor vehicle was searched and during the arrest the following were confiscated:

Over 150 various assorted rounds of ammunition, firearms and two hand radio as well as a pump action shotgun.

The Police opened a case of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended members for the job well done in arresting the suspects and recovering the firearms.

The suspects will appear before Naphuno Magistrate’s Court soon.
