The Mopani Vala Umgodi Task Team successfully apprehended two suspects during an early morning operation at Lamel Stone Mine on Friday, 25 July 2025.
At approximately 05:25, officers tactically approached the mining site and discovered the suspects actively engaged in illegal mining activities. Upon noticing the police presence, the suspects attempted to flee but were swiftly captured without incident.
Authorities seized multiple tools believed to be used in unlawful mining operations, including a shovel, pick, metal detector, two torches, a metal detector battery, and a black carry bag.
The suspects are set to face charges related to illegal mining.
