On Tuesday, 27 January 2026, police arrested two Zimbabwean nationals following an intelligence-driven operation.

Acting on information about a firearm at Extension 71 outside Polokwane, police located and searched a house in Mahwelereng. They found a firearm and ammunition.

The 34-year-old male occupant could not provide a valid license and was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police also established he was in the country illegally, adding a charge of contravention of the Immigration Act.

A continued operation led to the arrest of a second man, aged 31, at a rental residence for being in the country illegally.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
