The South African Police Service in this Province has once more welcomed the Court’s decision to remove one of the most heinous criminals from the society who has been tormenting women in and around the Mankweng policing precinct outside Polokwane.
The Polokwane High Court has sentenced Daniel Ranti Masenya (36) to an effective 21 years imprisonment for six counts of rapes.
The women’s ordeal allegedly took place between 2008 and 2014 around Sebayeng area when women victims, aged between 22 and 47, where attacked in their houses whilst sleeping.
The accused, who used to cover his face with a bandage and armed with a panga, would allegedly break a window to gain entrance and once inside, threatened his victims and continued with his dubious deeds. In some instances, he would rape them in the presence of their children.
The accused was also linked to a rape case that occurred in 2013 where he attacked a 22 year old woman in the bushes while she was collecting fire wood with her mother. The accused allegedly attacked the two women wearing only a t shirt, armed with a panga and his face covered with a bandage.
The last incident occurred in 2014 where a 43 year old woman was walking with her mother in law when he attacked them and dragged her to the nearby bushes and raped her.
This reign of terror was finally put to a stop in 2015 when a Dedicated Task Team from the Polokwane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offence Unit managed to crack the suspect and successfully linked him with all these cases.
The SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has graciously welcomed the sentencing and commended everyone who participated in these investigations especially the FCS Unit for their meticulous work.
