Operation 'Ceasefire' dismantles trio crime syndicates across Limpopo

In a concerted effort to eradicate incidents of Trio Crimes, especially in the crime infested areas throughout the Province, the Intelligence led Operation “Ceasefire” successfully dismantled possible Trio Crime Syndicates this week.

These operations, which comprised of the Tracing Teams, the Crime Intelligence and the Detective Units from the Provincial and the Clusters, led to the apprehension eight suspects aged between 26 and 33 years for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and suspected stolen motor vehicles.

During these operations, the following items were confiscated:

Two AK 47 Rifles: Three motor vehicles, four firearms, two rifle cartridges, eighty two ammunition, six firearm magazines and two spark sprays.

At Tafelkop area in the Motetema Policing precinct outside Groblersdal, two suspects were arrested during a sting joint operation and recovered the following items:

Two AK 47 rifles, two magazines, forty nine ammunition, two rifle cartridges, two spark sprays and one motor vehicle

In the Nebo Policing precinct outside Groblersdal, a suspicious motor vehicle was spotted by the Detectives and pulled off the road near Mgababa village. It was searched and recovered one 9mm firearm with four ammunition and subsequently arrested two suspects. The motor vehicle was also confiscated.

The Preliminary Police investigations have revealed that the suspects were wanted for a series of business robberies which they allegedly committed in the Nebo and Jane Furse Policing Policing areas respectively.

Meanwhile, at Mohlakamosoma village in the Bolobedu Policing precinct outside Tzaneen, the Tzaneen Cluster Tracing Team succeeded in intercepting the suspects who were en route to commit business robberies in the area. The suspects were stopped but they did not corporate. They drove away at high speed and the car chase ensued until three suspects were arrested.

During the arrest, the following items were recovered inside their motor vehicle:

Three firearms, three magazines, twenty ammunition and the motor vehicle was also confiscated.

In the Burgersfort Policing area, the Crime Intelligence and the Crime prevention members have arrested a 33-year-old suspect for possession of unlicensed ammunition and recovered the following: 8x 9mm ammunition, 1x R5 rifle ammunition and 01x empty firearm magazine.

The preliminary Police investigations have revealed that the suspect was highly wanted for business robberies he allegedly committed in the area.

The arrested suspects will appear before the Nebo, Motetema, Burgersfort and Bolobedu Magistrate Courts respectively, soon.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba is delighted about the significant impact done in the fight against this crime category.

The South African Police Service in this Province will still double their efforts in eradicating any form of criminality especially the ones which affect the nerve of our economy, concluded General Ledwaba.
