A 35-year-old man is expected to appear before the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court in connection with alleged murder of 30-year-old TVET College student in Lephalale.

The suspect’s arrest follows an incident where the suspect allegedly stabbed to death his female partner at Mahlakung Informal Settlement in Onverwatch outside Lephalale.

It is alleged that the couple, on that fateful day, had an argument before the suspect stabbed the woman several times with a sharp object and fled the scene.

The Police were alerted about the incident and on arrival, alongside the medical emergency services, the woman was found with serious stab wounds. She was certified dead at the scene.

The Police immediately commenced with the investigations and manhunt for the suspect until he was arrested on the 25 March 2020. The circumstances behind the incident are not known at this stage but domestic violence may not be ruled out.

The deceased was identified as Jemina Ratau from Sekhukhune.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned with the most strongest terms the continuous acts of gender based violence which are still prevalent in some parts of the Province.

Couples experiencing difficulties in their relationship for any reason, should seek professional assistance and support and refrain from the violent behaviours”, Concluded General Ledwaba.

The Police investigations are still continuing.
