The off-duty Constable has intercepted suspects during a business robbery in progress incident at the local shop at Phomolong extension 09 in the Modimolle Policing area on the evening of 14 May 2019, at about 18:30. It is alleged that the victim was inside the shop when two suspects entered, armed with a firearm and a knife. They attacked the victim, started to search the shop and they took money, cigarettes and airtime.

In the process, the off-duty Police Officer who was passing in front of the shop, noticed the door closed and heard people talking inside the shop saying, shut up. He got suspicious, ran home, took his firearm and went back to the scene.

On arrival, he found the suspects have just fled the scene and he followed them until he found them not far from the scene. He identified himself as a Police officer but the suspects refused to surrender.

He warned them and subsequently apprehended one of them and the second one run away. During the arrest, the following items were recovered in possession of the suspect: a toy gun, cigarettes, airtime and cash amount of money. The toy gun is believed to be the weapon used during the robbery and the other recovered items are also believed to be part of the robbed items.

The preliminary Police investigations has revealed that the arrested suspect was out on bail for the previous similar cases of business robberies in the Modimolle Policing area. The second suspect was identified and he is still being sought.

The shop owner sustained serious injuries during the robbery and he was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. The Police investigations are still continuing.
