Mob attack: Suspected stock thief killed – Elandskraal farm torched

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has ordered the Police to track down and arrest the persons responsible for torching a farm belonging to a business woman.

This comes following an incident of an apparent mob attack that occurred when the community torched a farm in Elandskraal, on Sunday 18 June 2023 at about 17:00.

According to the reports, a section of the community at Elandskraal in Morarela village went on a rampage and set alight a farm owned by the woman.

The attack followed a day after the owner, her son and two relatives are alleged to have kidnapped a 35-year-old man and killed him and also injured his friend after accusing them of stealing goats.

The four were arrested on the spot and charged with murder, kidnapping and assault with intend to do grievous bodily harm.

The fire damaged the farm fence, gate, house, a motor vehicle white Nissan bakkie and other properties.

The extent of the damage is still to be determined.

Police members were summoned to the scene upon which the community upon noticing the Police, fled the scene.

A manhunt for the suspects was immediately activated.

“People should refrain from taking the law into their own hands and are urged to trust Police capabilities as they are well trained to deal with crime related problems,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

Police investigations are still continuing.
