Authorities in Hlanganani are conducting a thorough investigation into a statutory rape case after a 13-year-old boy came forward with allegations of repeated sexual assault by an adult male known to him.
The matter came to light on Saturday, 23 May 2026, at approximately 15:00, when the child returned to his grandmother’s home visibly distressed. The 67-year-old caregiver reported that her grandson was crying after being taunted by peers who allegedly claimed awareness that he had been raped by a familiar man.
During subsequent discussions, the victim disclosed that the suspected perpetrator allegedly assaulted him on multiple occasions spanning from 2023 through March 2026. According to the official report, the boy remained silent about the alleged abuse due to intimidation tactics employed by the suspect, who reportedly threatened to either kill him or publicly share details of the incidents on social media platforms should he speak out.
The victim confirmed that the most recent alleged assault took place in March 2026.
Following the initial report, the case was escalated and transferred to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit based in Giyani for specialized handling and further investigative procedures.
Law enforcement officials confirm that no arrest has been made to date. The investigation remains active, with detectives continuing to gather evidence and pursue leads. The identity of the suspect has not been disclosed publicly as part of standard investigative protocol.
Police emphasize that the victim’s identity is legally protected under South African legislation governing cases involving minors. Community members with information pertinent to the investigation are urged to contact the Giyani FCS Unit or the SAPS confidential tip-line to assist authorities.
