Mecklenburg illegal chrome mining, 2 suspects arrested

The ongoing disruptive operations that focus on Illegal Mining, conducted across the Limpopo Province yielded positive results following the apprehension of two suspects aged between 31 and 42 in the early hours of Friday, 17 March 2023 at about 05:00 in Sekhukhune District.

The suspects were nabbed by the members of Provincial Organised Crime Unit while conducting the operation focusing on illegal mining in Mecklenburg policing precinct along the R71 public road.

Police spotted a white Tata tipper truck with two occupants, loaded with chrome and immediately stopped it.

The duo were requested to produce a permit and authorization documents to load and transport chrome but they failed to account the origin of the chrome.

They were arrested on the spot and the tipper truck with registration of Mpumalanga province was also impounded during their arrests.
The suspects are expected to appear before Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 20 March 2023 facing charges of illegal mining and transportation of chrome.
