A body, burnt beyond recognition, has been discovered inside a burnt-out vehicle on the N1 in the early hours of 22 January 2020. The body was discovered inside a burnt-out BMW motor vehicle at around 05:45 on the N1 between Modimolle and Bela-Bela. A manhunt by the police in Modimolle has since been launched to find the suspect (s) involved.

Fire and Rescue Services were reportedly alerted by a passerby about a motor vehicle that was one fire. They notified the police and when they arrived at the scene, the fire had already been extinguished. The police started with their investigations and that is when the body was discovered in the driver’s seat.

Further investigations followed and a shotgun was found a few meters away from the scene.

According to Police Spokesperson, Motlafela Mojapelo, it is believed that the deceased might have been shot before the assailants set the vehicle on fire.

The firearm will be sent for ballistic examination while the process of determining the identity of the deceased through DNA has begun.

The circumstances of why this incident occurred are being investigated by police.
