
A 26-year-old Ethiopian national has been convicted and sentenced for the kidnapping and rape of a 13-year-old girl in May 2024.
The Mahwelereng Regional Court delivered the sentence on Friday, 27 March 2026. The accused received life imprisonment for rape, five years imprisonment for kidnapping, and either two years imprisonment or a fine of R5,000 for contravening the Immigration Act.
The incident occurred in Moshate village, which falls under the Mahwelereng policing area. The victim was 13 years old at the time of the attack.
Sergeant Raisibe Marakalala was the investigating officer assigned to the case. The accused was denied bail pending the conclusion of the trial due to her efforts in the investigation.
