The Provincial Task Team conducted an intelligence-driven operation that led to the arrest of a 39 year old suspect and confiscation of illicit cigarettes.
Members acted swiftly after they have received a tip-off which led them to a vehicle transporting illicit cigarettes in Polokwane. Upon approaching the suspect, he attempted to escape but the police gave chase and the suspect was swiftly apprehended at Ivy Park next to Sterkloop Nursery.
The suspect was travelling in a gold Toyota. A total of 1085 cartons of illicit cigarettes to the value of R233,275 were seized.
The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
