In a concerted effort to fight the scourge of Gender Based Violence and Femicide, the Police in Lulekani outside Phalaborwa have on the night of 31 December 2021, arrested a 35-year-old suspect within two hours after he allegedly stabbed to death a 34 year old woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend.

The incident happened on Friday 31 December 2021 at about 21:00 at Matiko Xikaya village.

The suspect reportedly arrived at Matiko Xikaya village and found the victim at a certain premises. He allegedly stabbed the woman several times after a heated argument and then fled the scene on foot.

The Police were called and on arrival, they found the victim bleeding profusely on the floor. The ambulance was summoned but the victim was declared dead at the scene by medical personnel. The deceased was identified as Sibongile Nobela.

The Police initial investigations commenced and soon received an information that the suspect had boarded a vehicle en route to Tzaneen.

They responded swiftly and the vehicle matching the description given was spotted along the R71 road towards Tzaneen and was pulled off.

The suspect was immediately arrested and the alleged murder weapon confiscated.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the members for their swift response in arresting the suspect soon after allegedly committing this horrendous crime.

The suspect will appear in Lulekani magistrate court on Monday 3 January 2022, facing a murder charge.
