The relentless efforts by the police to fight against the scourge of crime yielded positive results when the Intelligence driven joint operations that were conducted in some parts of the province resulted in the arrest of twelve (12) suspects aged between 22 and 55. The arrests were affected in the Tzaneen, Thohoyandou, Mahwelereng and Groblersdal clusters.
In the Tzaneen Cluster, four suspects aged between 22 and 37 were arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and car hijacking which occurred in the Thohoyandou policing area on 7 April 2019, at around 21:00. This follows an incident where a 34 year old man was opening a gate at his home at Thohoyandou when a group of men appeared from nowhere and forced him and his daughter into their car at gunpoint and drove away with them.
The Police were notified and swiftly responded which resulted in the arrest of these suspects in the Maake Policing area outside Tzaneen. During the arrest, police rescued a three year old child and the owner of the hijacked motor vehicle and also confiscated two motor vehicles, firearm and bank cards.
The preliminary Police investigations revealed that the suspects were on a mission to go and commit business robberies in the Tzaneen Cluster and the surrounding areas.
