A 62 year old woman and her two sons aged 35 and 43 respectively were on Tuesday 31 December 2019, arrested for killing her husband aged 66. The incident took place at Tiyani village in Hlanganani policing area outside Giyani.

It is alleged that Mr Samson Hlungwani was allegedly accused of witchcraft by the three and was on Tuesday, 31 December 2019 at about 08:00 subsequently strangled inside one of the rooms. This after one of the sons complained that his father bewitched him as every time he marries a woman she doesn’t stay long.

The police reacted to a report about the incident and on arrival at the scene, the deceased was found with bruises lying motionless in one of the rooms.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned this incident and has warned community members to desist from accusing other people of practicing witchcraft and then killing them.

The three suspects, who were staying with the deceased in the same house, will appear in Tiyani Magistrates’ Court today on a charge of murder.
