The Police in Motetema, outside Groblersdal, have arrested a 61 year old man for raping an 11 year old girl.

It is alleged that the suspect grabbed the victim and raped her while she was going to the spaza shop, sent by her mother in the evening at about 18:00 last week. Upon arrival at home, the victim reported the ordeal to the mother who immediately reported it to the Police.

The Police reacted swiftly and the initial investigations ensued until the suspect was positively identified and arrested.

The suspect will appear before Motetema Magistrate’s court on 6 February 2018 on a charge of rape.

The South African Police Service in this Province condemns this type of acts especially when it is perpetrated by adult persons who were supposed to protect them. Every member of the community must take and consider any child as his or her child and they must participate in any child care initiative instead of harming them. Child safety is a societal responsibility and all members of the community are encouraged to join hands with the Police in their endeavor to protect children from any form of abuse including rape.
