A 19 year-old accused, Eugene Mulder, on 15 March 2023, appeared in Phalaborwa magistrate court after he was arrested for the murder of a 59-year-old man, Frans Johannes Eloff van Dyk at Royal Bliss Bar in Phalaborwa in the early hours of Saturday morning, 11 March 2023 between 01:00 and 02:00.
The Police received a call about a man who was assaulted at Royal Bliss Bar, a liquor outlet in Phalaborwa, and immediately responded. Upon their arrival they, found a man lying on the floor and bleeding.
The Ambulance was contacted and the victim was taken to the nearest hospital for medical assistance. He however, later succumbed to his injuries.
According to Police preliminary investigation, the 59 year old man was at the said outlet together with his friend, enjoying their drinks when an argument with a 19-year-old suspect, who was also at the Bar allegedly started.
The argument escalated into a physical contact wherein the old men fell and started bleeding.
A case was then was opened and a manhunt for the suspect immediately ensued. He was later arrested and charged with Murder.
“The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has warned that the Police will deal with the liquor outlets generating any form of criminality. It remains the responsibility of the owners of liquor outlets to ensure that their premises do not become brewing grounds for criminal activities as the Police will consequently take the necessary steps against the owners of the outlets where crime incidents take place,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
The accused was remanded in custody until Thursday, 16 March 2023 for further Police investigation.
