The South African Police Service in Limpopo have arrested forty six suspects aged between 19 and 49 during the violent protest actions this week in the Lebowakgomo and Modjadjiskloof Policing areas.

This follows the arrest of forty (40) suspects aged between 21 and 45 in the Lebowakgomo Policing area outside Polokwane after a violent protest erupted at the Olifantspoort Water Plant.

It is alleged that two employees of the water plant were at work on 25 April 2019, at about 15:15 when a group of unknown people arrived singing and they started to threaten these employees demanding water plant keys. The keys were forcefully taken from one of the employees. The protesters continued and disconnected the water supply system.

The Police were notified, reacted swiftly and three of the involved suspects were arrested and later, 37 others were also arrested.

On 28 April 2019, the Police were alerted about break-in at this Water plant, they responded and on arrival, they found that cables were cut and computers stolen, allegedly by a group of people.

Meanwhile, at Ga-Sekgopo village along the R81 road between Polokwane and Mooketsi in the Modjadjiskloof Policing area outside Tzaneen, six (06) suspects aged between 19 and 49 were arrested during a violent protest which was on and off for some days. These community members embarked on a violent protest action by barricading this road with stones, rubbles and burning tyres.

The Police intervened and subsequently, these suspects were arrested and the road was cleared.

The arrested suspects will soon appear before the two magistrate courts soon. The situation in this two areas was normalized but the Public Order Police Unit is still monitoring them.
