The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has expressed shock and dismay following a tragic domestic violence incident that claimed the lives of two police officers on Saturday, 09 August 2025.
Horrific Double Murder at Nkuna Kraal Mall
Hlanganani police were called to Nkuna Kraal Mall in Nkuzana village at approximately 15h00 after reports of two murders. According to preliminary investigations, a female sergeant was at the mall with two adults and her six-year-old child when her estranged husband approached her. The couple had been separated for about seven months.
A heated argument allegedly broke out between them, leading the husband to draw his service firearm and shoot the victim in the upper body. As he attempted to flee the scene in his vehicle, enraged community members who witnessed the incident chased him down, assaulted him, and set him alight next to his car. The vehicle was burned beyond recognition.
Deceased Identified as SAPS Members
The male suspect, who died at the scene, was identified as a sergeant attached to the Thohoyandou K9 Unit. The female victim was also a sergeant stationed at the Beit Bridge Port of Entry.
Police Condemn Violence, Urge Use of Support Services
Lieutenant General Hadebe has called on community members and police officers to seek professional assistance in resolving domestic disputes rather than resorting to violence.
“The SAPS has in place Employee Health and Wellness programmes that are offered free of charge. We call upon members of SAPS to make use of these services that are at their disposal,” she said.
