The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has vehemently condemned the brutal murder of a newborn baby whose body was found burned beyond recognition.

The grisly discovery was made at Mashobohleng village in Moletji. Police from Seshego under the Capricorn District were called to the scene on Friday, 05 September 2025, at approximately 15:45.

Upon arrival, they were led to the location where a community member had found the lifeless body of a small baby, estimated to be two weeks old, next to a local school in the bushes. The infant had been severely burned.

The motive for the incident is currently unknown.

In a strong statement addressing the tragedy, Lieutenant General Hadebe expressed deep concern over a disturbing trend in the province. “The recent incidents of leaving newly born babies alive or deceased is becoming a serious problem in the Province,” she stated.

She urged mothers in crisis to seek help, saying, “If you give birth to a child and you realise that you don’t need to keep him/her, it’s advisable to approach the Department of Social Development for advice on adoption as the option than killing innocent blood.”

Police investigations are continuing. Anyone with information that can assist the investigation is urged to contact the Investigating Officer, Warrant Officer Calvin Magoro, on 084 411 8008. Information can also be reported via the Crime Stop number 08600 10111, at any nearest police station, or through the MySAPSApp.
