The police in Limpopo continue to put more people behind bars following the arrest of more than two thousand suspects during joint operations that were conducted around the Province from the past week up until the morning of Monday 24 August 2020.
A 42-year-old suspect, arrested for stabbing to death a 44-year-old man identified as Rhandzeka Papani Ngoveni whilst on the way from the local tavern, is amongst the two thousand and ninety-two (2092) suspects arrested during joint operations conducted across the province.
The suspect and the deceased were allegedly engaged in a heated argument when they were consuming alcohol in the local tavern at Mushiyani village under Giyani policing area on Sunday night 23 August 2020. When the deceased left the place, the suspect reportedly followed him and stabbed him to death. This is one of the liquor related incidents that took place since the easing of the Lockdown regulation to level 2.
The other incidents include the arrest of three suspects aged 26, 27 and 45 who were apprehended for robbery with firearm which they allegedly committed on 18 August 2020, at around 16:00 at Ga-Seleka, Witpoort outside Lephalale. This after Lephalale Crime Intelligence and Detectives conducted the investigations and succeeded in the arrest and recovering eight 20litres of diesel and Ford Ranger bakkie.
These operations were conducted during the past week until this morning 24 August 2020 and were conducted through roadblocks, tracing of wanted suspects, COVID-19 compliance monitoring, visits at shopping malls as well stop and searches and were comprised of members of the SAPS, SANDF, Traffic Police and other law enforcement agencies.
Other suspects were arrested for crimes ranging from rape, sexual assaults, fraud, stock theft, intimidation, violation of protection order, murder, attempted murder pointing of firearm, smuggling of illicit cigarettes, possession of suspected stolen properties, poaching, possession of dagga and dealing in drugs, possession of endangered, carjacking, theft of out of motor vehicles, house robberies, public drinking, burglaries, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, illegal immigration, possession of dangerous weapons, road traffic acts to contravention of the regulations under Disaster Management Act.
Police managed to seize firearms and ammunition, motor vehicles, plasma television sets, airtime vouchers, cellphones, projectile, liquor, cow meat and rhino carcasses.
Other confiscations include over two hundred thousand rand worth of illicit cigarettes, dagga weighing 5026grams, nyaope drugs weighing 201grams and 124 801 counterfeit goods.
The three suspects arrested for robbery in Lephalale and the one apprehended for murder in Giyani are expected to appear before respective magistrate courts of Phalala and Giyani tomorrow, Tuesday, 25 August 2020. The rest of the suspects aged between 18 and 58 have already started appearing before different magistrate courts around the Province.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has once more commended all the Police teams involved in these operations as they work tirelessly to ensure that our province remains a safe place.
