The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation welcomes the conviction and sentencing of Dr Anthony Okey Nwafor (55) and his accomplice Farried Mall (66) who is a paralegal, for corruption by the Mokopane Regional court on Tuesday.

During November 2015, Nwafor, a Pretoria-based medical doctor connived with Mall to bribe a Home Affairs investigator who was entrusted with the investigation of Nwafor’s legal status in the country. The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation Team.

Nwafor and Mall were arrested immediately after handing over a R50 000 gratification to a Home Affairs investigator.

Both accused were granted bail during their trial until they were both convicted and sentenced to R70 000 or 1400 days imprisonment each. However, Nwafor’s legal status in the country is still being investigated.
