The Lephalale Regional Court has sentenced Alebele Alpheus Lutolo aged 31 to an effective life imprisonment for raping a mentally ill woman on 30 August 2013.

The accused was walking from the local tavern in the evening at about 20:00 when he met the victim walking alone to Shongwane village IN the Villa Nora policing area outside Lephalale.

He dragged her to the nearby bushes and raped her before he fled the scene.

The Police were notified and reacted swiftly which led to the apprehension of this criminal within a month on 28 September 2013, in Shongwane village. He was positively linked to the crime and he remained in police custody with no bail until his sentencing day arrived in the court of law.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba has welcomed this heavy jail term. The General has also commended the Investigation team which handled the case from the Lephalale Cluster Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences(FCS) Unit.
