Levubu farm murders: 'Communities must organise and prepare to defend themselves'

The latest farm murder of a couple in Limpopo’s Vhembe District once again goes to show that rural communities must join their local security groups to ensure their own safety against attacks.

Mr Louis (71) and Mrs Ina (65) Cloete were attacked on their farm in Levubu on 20 April 2022, they were subsequently robbed and their house was torched.

The brutality characterising farm attacks and murders indicates that robbery is not the sole motive and that this type of crime ought to be declared a priority crime.

The moment when the political will is there to ensure the safety of rural areas and put proper punitive measures in place, there will be a drastic drop in the number of farm attacks and murders.

Communities are once again called upon to be vigilant and ready to defend themselves in every possibly way within the constraints of the law.

The FF Plus has already engaged with the local police and other security organisations and will apply pressure in every possible way to see to it that the murderers are apprehended, arrested and prosecuted as soon as possible.

The FF Plus expresses its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.
