The Lephalale Regional Court has handed down severe prison sentences to two brothers convicted of the vicious murder of a 27-year-old man in Maeteletja Village, under the Villa Nora policing precinct in the Waterberg District. The sentencing took place on Thursday, 22 May 2025, marking the conclusion of a case stemming from the June 2023 killing.

Sentencing Details

  • Solomon Ramai (26) received life imprisonment under Section 51(1) of the Criminal Law Amendment Act No. 105 of 1997.

  • Vincent Ramai (19) was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment in accordance with Sections 77(3)(v) read with 77(4)(a) of the Child Justice Act No. 75 of 2008, as he was a minor at the time of the crime.

Brutal and Unprovoked Attack

Court proceedings revealed that the siblings brutally assaulted the victim with rocks during a night of drinking at a local tavern. The attack, described as unprovoked and excessively violent, resulted in the victim’s death. The court emphasized the lack of remorse shown by the accused throughout the trial.

At the time of their arrest, the accused were each granted R500 bail pending trial.
