Ms Sonja Joubert, a friend of Mr Jasper von Kleist (61), who was shot and killed during a farm attack last night, showed the FF Plus around the bloody scene today and said that it didn’t look like the attackers wanted to steal anything, but as if they were only intent on shooting and killing the people on the farm.

Mr Von Kleist, the manager of the farm Dale in the Tom Burke region, died of gunshot wounds to his upper body. Ms Joubert was shot twice. She has one gunshot wound in her arm and another in her shoulder.

Mr Charlie Solomon, son of the eminent farmer and owner of the farm, Mr Nico Solomon, was also wounded when he tried to flee from the four armed attackers.

An extremely emotional Ms Joubert showed the FF Plus around the bloody scene this morning. She says that she and Mr Von Kleist were watching television when they heard shots outside. This is her verbatim report of what happened:

“Jasper jumped up and at that moment, the men started shooting at us through the front door. The door has small glass windows and so they could see us inside. After the first shot hit me, Jasper jumped in front of me and he was hit in the chest.

“Another shot hit me and we both fell down, Jasper partly lying on top of me. I heard him gurgle. And then the gurgling stopped and I could feel that his breathing had also stopped. That is when I knew that he was dead.

“The men didn’t say a word. They just opened fire on us from outside. It was as if they just wanted to kill us, nothing more …”

This morning, nearly 500 farmers from the surrounding area helped the police in their search for the men. A helicopter and light aircraft were also used in the search. According to the police, cell phones were stolen.

In another incident on a small holding near Port Elizabeth, a couple in their seventies and a family member in her eighties were attacked and wounded on Tuesday 20 March 2018.

And on Monday evening, a farm manager from Ladybrand was murdered while his wife was stabbed and raped.
Dr Pieter Groenewald, has travelled to Brussels, Belgium, to discuss farm murders and expropriation without compensation with various groups, like the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) and the Flemish Interest Youth in Gent.
