Lebowakgomo, Limpopo – Police in Limpopo have confirmed that a kidnapping syndicate, previously active in Gauteng, the Free State, and Mpumalanga, has now targeted women in the province. The group is suspected of involvement in the murder of Olorato Mongale and is also linked to the kidnapping and robbery of a woman in Lebowakgomo before Mongale’s killing.

Authorities say the syndicate lures victims through fake dates before abducting them. Deputy Police Minister Polly Boshielo has raised concerns about the syndicate’s operations, which have now extended to Limpopo.

Community Voices Fear

Residents in Lebowakgomo’s Zone F expressed alarm over the rising threat, particularly for young women. A local resident said: “We don’t feel safe. As young girls, we can get raped, kidnapped, and killed. Some girls have already been taken and murdered.”

Another community member urged parents to be vigilant and called on police to respond swiftly to reports. “When we call the police, they must come quickly to protect us,” she said.

Police Urged to Act

The syndicate’s modus operandi involves using social media and online dating to trap victims. With fears growing, residents are demanding increased police visibility and preventative measures.

Limpopo police have assured the public that investigations are ongoing but have urged women to exercise caution when engaging with strangers online.
