Illegal mining: Police launch manhunt after a man fatally shot, Tzaneen

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned, in the strongest terms possible, the cold blood killing of a man suspected to be linked to illegal mining.

This follows an incident that occurred on 12 June 2019, at about 19:30, in Letsitele outside Tzaneen. It is alleged that a 41 year old man, coming from the Carnival city in the Gauteng Province, arrived at a house in Zanghoma village to pay his “illegal mining employees”.

The man was still outside the house talking to some of the employees, when an unknown assailant entered the yard, shot him and fled on foot with his cellphone and undisclosed amount of money.

The police and the medical emergency services were called to the scene and the man was certified dead. The motive for the killing will be revealed through ongoing police investigations.

The police have launched a manhunt for the suspect involved in this matter and are making an appeal to anyone with information that can lead to his arrest to contact Colonel Cecil Machimane at 082 451 7181 or the crime stop number 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.

“The cold blooded killing of any person for whatever reason, will not be tolerated by the South African Police Service. Decisive action will be taken to make sure the killer is hunted down and brought to book,” concluded General Ledwaba.
