The SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned any form of bullying and violence in and around the learning environment in the strongest possible terms.
This condemnation emanates from an incident where a 21 year old learner was severely stabbed by another learner during school hours at the school premises of a High School in Tzaneen. The incident happened on Monday 12 February 2018, at 12h00.
Police in Letsitele outside Tzaneen have since launched a manhunt for a 21 year old suspect who is a leaner in one of the high Schools in the area who fled after the incident. It is alleged that the suspect had a fight with the victim who is also a 21 year old leaner and both doing grade 11. During this fight, the suspect stabbed the victim with a sharp instrument before he fled the scene.
The victim was immediately conveyed to hospital in a critical condition for medical treatment where he is still recuperating. The cause of this fight is still unknown but the Police investigations will tell. The suspect is still on the run and there is no arrest.

Members of the Community especially parents, Educators and the school Governing Bodies, are advised and encouraged to ensure that children are not armed with any type of weapon while going to school and while they are within the school premises, to prevent this type of incidents to happen.
The SAPS in this province has embarked on an ongoing school safety program to prevent Gangsterism and bullying at all the schools. These campaigns are significant as they are ongoing. All members of the community are encouraged to participate effectively in this programs including from home, concluded General Ledwaba.
