In Ritavi outside Tzaneen, a resident of Dan village, Lawrence Majaji aged 33 and a Mhlava Cross village resident Patrick Patman Shingane aged 35 were both sentenced to seven years Imprisonment each for burglary business.

The sentencing followed an incident which occurred on the 08th January 2015 at about 23:50 when these accused broke into the local school and stole computer equipment and a grass cutter machine.

In Lephalale, a 34 year old Levy Masenya was sentenced to life imprisonment for two counts of rape.

This follows the incident which took place on the 05th July 2015 where an 18 year old girl was asleep at her homestead when the accused forced the window open, threatened her with a knife, raped her twice and fled the scene. An intensive investigation by the Police Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, led to the arrest of the culprit who was later positively linked to this incident.

In Mphephu outside Thohoyandou, Neo Singo aged 25 years was sentenced by the Dzanani Regional Court to life imprisonment for raping a 10 year old girl and he was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

On the 17 November 2017, at 15:00, the victim was playing with her friends along the street when the suspect called her inside a vacant house where he raped her, gave her R20-00 and told her not to tell anyone before fleeing the scene until he was later arrested.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba has commended the Team of Detectives from Hlanganani and Ritavi Police Stations, Lephalale, Thohoyandou and Mahwelereng FCS Units who worked tirelessly with professionalism and dedication that led to the conviction and sentencing of these criminals.
