Swift reaction by the Police after an attempted cash-in-transit robbery along Westernburg and Matlala roads, yielded positive results when four suspects, aged between 26 and 53, were arrested.

The incident occurred in the early hours of this morning, at about 04:00, when a group of armed suspects attacked two security cars; one transporting cash and the other car was an escort vehicle. Both vehicles had five security officers. The suspects shot at the security vehicles which overturned in different directions. The security officers sustained serious injuries and the suspects abandoned their vehicle at the scene and fled.

A Joint Operation composed of a number of Police Units led by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner of Detective Services, Major General Bafana Linda, was immediately established and followed up on information regarding the suspects.

Within an hour, four suspects were arrested at a petrol station outside Polokwane. During the arrest, the following items were recovered:

Two rifles with four magazines
Two Pistols
Three VW Polo vehicles and the BMW’ sedan which was abandoned at the crime scene

The suspects will appear before the Polokwane Magistrate Court soon and Police investigations are still continuing.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, commended the quick reaction by the members which led to this major breakthrough.
