A 52-year-old former police Sergeant, previously attached to the Lebowakgomo police station, is set to appear in court on Monday, 28 October 2024, alongside two accomplices: a police Constable (41) and a police Reservist (42). They face charges of corruption, defeating the ends of justice, and business burglary.
The arrest took place on Sunday, 27 October 2024, as part of an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Unit in Limpopo, which linked the officers to a series of unlawful activities.
The former Sergeant was dismissed from the Police Service after being implicated in incidents where he, along with his accomplices, allegedly extorted R1,500 from a man accused of being in possession of dagga. The recent charges relate to a burglary case in which he and the police Reservist allegedly broke into a shop owned by a foreign national in May 2023, within the Moletlane policing precinct, stealing a cash money and cigarettes without registering the evidence or opening a case.
The three suspects will appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 October 2024.
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, has welcomed the recent arrest, stating that this serves as a strong message that those who undermine the integrity of the service and conduct themselves with impunity will be rooted out without fear or favour.
