A 49-year-old foreign national was arrested on Thursday, June 4, 2026, after authorities seized illicit tobacco valued at R1.5 million in the Moletlane policing area.
The Provincial Tracking Team, supported by Tshimollo Security and Investigations, executed the anti-smuggling operation following intelligence reports that a white Nissan truck was transporting illicit tobacco from Zimbabwe to Gauteng Province.
Acting on this information, the tracking team placed the vehicle under surveillance. At approximately 17:00, the truck was intercepted on the R518 public road in Moletlane. A subsequent search of the vehicle uncovered 333 master boxes of Hookar tobacco, carrying an estimated street value of R1.5 million.
