The South African Police Service in Limpopo have arrested 2015 suspects aged between 29 and 67 for various offenses including Contravention of Disaster Management Act and seized firearms, drugs and liquor during the heightened festive season operations conducted since Monday, 28 December 2020 until the morning of Monday 4 January 2021.

The operations were conducted in all the four Districts and suspects were arrested for cases that include rape, possession of stolen vehicles, possession and dealing in drugs and illicit cigarettes, selling fireworks without permits, murder, attempted murder, robberies, burglaries, assault on police, assault GBH, malicious damage to property, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, stock theft, possession of suspected stolen properties, illegal gambling, public drinking, common robbery, armed robbery, shoplifting, driving under the influence of liquor.

Sekhukhune District: In the Mecklenburg policing area, police arrested two suspects aged 31 and 34 for the Contravention of Disaster Management Act. It is alleged on Sunday, 3 January 2021 at about 01:55 in the morning, police were patrolling along the R37 road next to Sefateng mine when they came across a Toyota bakkie and pulled it over. The driver and occupants failed to produce permits to be on the road during curfew hours according to level 3 regulations. They were immediately arrested.

Meanwhile in Masemola policing area, four male suspects aged between 42 and 67 were arrested for rape, domestic violence, malicious damage to property and assault.

Waterberg District: On Saturday, 02 January 2021 the Police arrested 20-year-old suspect at Vaalwater taxi rank. The suspect was allegedly selling illicit cigarettes, drugs and the counterfeit CD’s.

Capricorn District: Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol unit, yesterday arrested a 25-year-old suspect at Sebayeng next to Mankweng for dealing in drugs and confiscated crystal meth, dagga and Nyaope. Police also nabbed a 48-year-old man on Friday, 01 January 2021 in Polokwane CBD for bribery, dealing and possession of drugs. He was found with nyaope, CAT, Rocks and Crystal Meth, with estimated street value of R5000.

During these operations the following items were seized items: 10 firearms, 37 knifes, 3704 cartoon of Illicit cigarettes, 201gr dagga, 181 dagga plants, 38gr Crystal Meth, 41gr Nyaope, 774 207 ml liquor, 4 stolen/robbed vehicles recovered and issued 1724 fines.

The operating components included the following – Public Order Police Unit, Crime Intelligence Unit, Detectives, the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP), Tactical Response Team (TRT), Organised Crime Unit, Stock Theft Unit, Vehicle Crime Investigation (VCIU) Unit and K9 Unit joined by the Provincial and Municipal Traffic Police.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers praised the hardworking police teams and all other law enforcement agencies.

All the arrested suspects will appear before the various magistrate courts soon and police investigations are continuing.
