Farmers in the Constantia area outside Mookgophong are perplexed about the burglary and theft on their farms.

From the beginning of May to the end of June a farmer who asks asked not be named said his farm is targeted all the time and had been the victim of three robberies.

In the last of the three cases on Wednesday, 22 June, a freezer to plastic chairs was stolen. The stolen goods were placed in a wheelbarrow and pushed to the main road where it presumably was transported by a vehicle. The damage amounted to about R120 000.

Daan Engelbrecht of the farm Driefontein told Die Pos that they are very concerned about the situation, and they have asked the police to take the matter seriously and to be more visible. There was also a break-in at his son, Nico’s place in May. Some of the workers were tied up and threatened with death.

Joseph Lekalakala, one of the workers who was tied up, said he feared for his life and would not enter the place without supervision. Nico is the head of a primary school in Thabazimbi and does not live on the farm.

There is also a farm, Pulani that borders on the west side of Engelbrecht’s farm, and Jack’s Lodge nearby that was targeted.

According to the farmers with whom Die Pos talked to, it was discovered that the burglaries took place in the area, and they were tired of the incidents. Engelbrecht said the wires were cut and the stolen goods taken by the suspects were carried to the road.

Ao. Barend van Wyk, the investigating officer of the police Mookgophong, told Die Pos, that no one had been arrested, but the cases are being investigated. He needed to be provided with more information, as it could hamper the investigation.
