Farm Watch assists in the arrest of 3 house robbery suspects, Lulekani

The swift response by the police in Lulekani outside Phalaborwa under Mopani District, led to the arrest of three suspects shortly after they allegedly committed a house robbery at Lulekani Township in the early hours of Saturday 25 September 2021.

Police received a complaint of house robbery that had just been committed in this area at about 03:30, where three suspects broke into the house and tied up a man and his wife before robbing them of a cellphone and Nissan bakkie at gunpoint. In the process, one shot was reportedly fired by the suspects but no one was injured.

Police upon receiving the complaint, responded swiftly and the said suspects were spotted on the R40 road.

A high-speed car chase ensued with assistance of the Tracker Company and local Farm Watch, and the suspects’ vehicle was eventually stopped a few kilometers away from Acornhoek.

The three suspects were arrested on the spot and one firearm with ammunition, the robbed cellphone and motor vehicle were recovered.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the swift response of the police and continuous support of community members.

The suspects aged between 37 and 40 are expected to appear in Lulekani Magistrates’ Court on Monday 27 September 2021, facing charges of house robbery, possession of suspected stolen properties and possession of unlawful firearm and ammunition.

They will still be profiled to determine if they were previously involved in any other crimes.

Police investigations are still continuing.
