Seven farm attackers appeared in the Thabamoopo magistrate court earlier this week in connection with the murder of Piet (69) and Tilla van Zyl (66) from Roedtan, Limpopo.
Eight suspects appeared in October 2017, in connection with the case, but according to Lt.Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, a police spokesperson, one of the suspects could not be connected to the crime.
And earlier this week a the charges against a further three were also withdrawn. The four remaining suspects were denied bail and will appear again on 13 April 2018.
The van Zyl couple were found by a family member on their farm outside Mokopane,(Potgietersrus) on 20 August after they had been murdered.
A group of attackers broke open the bedroom door and overpowered the couple who were then held at gunpoint whilst the house was ransacked. The attackers the shot he couple dead before fleeing the scene. The victims were found in their house on the Sunday at approximately 09:00. Their hands had been tied and they had numerous gunshot wounds throughout their bodies.
Two hunting rifles, a pistol and a revolver were also taken during the attack.
