The Police in Bandelierkop outside Makhado have arrested another suspect involved in the shooting of Security Officers at a local farm. This brings to five the number of arrested suspects in this matter so far.

This additional arrest follows an incident that occurred on Monday 18 June 2018, at about 19:30 at a farm between Elim and Vleifontein.

It is alleged that four Security Officers we on duty at the local Farm when they were attacked by four suspects, one armed with a firearm. The gunman allegedly shot randomly at the the Security Officers who then took cover from different directions.

One of the Officers was shot and ultimately caught by the suspects who assaulted him. The intruders fled the scene before the arrival of the Police. The injured Security Officer was immediately taken to hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

The intensified Intelligence led joint operation composed of the Crime Intelligence Unit and the Detectives ensued and subsequently, four suspects aged between 24 and 36 were arrested at Magangeni village on 19 June 2018, outside Makhado.

The fifth suspect aged 21 was later arrested at Mangageni village and he will appear before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court.During the arrest one 9mm firearm was recovered.

Meanwhile, the four suspects who were arrested earlier have already appeared before the Louis Trichardt Magistrate’s Court on Friday 22 June 2018, on charges of murder and attempted murder and they were all denied bail and remanded in custody.

They will appear again before the same Magistrate’s Court on 2 July 2018 for a formal bail application and pending further Police investigations. The Police investigations are still underway.

The SAPS Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Jan Scheepers has commended the members who participated during this operation for their sterling efforts.

The South African Police Service in this Province have declared war against criminal syndicates who are still trying their luck perpetrating Trio crimes including crimes affecting the farming and rural communities but we are still requesting members of the community to give support with quality and reliable information ,concluded General Scheepers.
