Around 8H00 this morning, January 24, an 84-year-old man was seriously injured in a farm attack in the Roodekuil area, Bela Bela, Limpopo province.

John Ramalo was alone and left the house to go to town in his Nissan bakkie when five suspects overpowered him. The suspects pointed a gun to his head and forced him back inside the house. The suspects beat him until his face was severely swollen and shot his two dogs.

The suspects ransacked the house and fled with a .303 gun, a .22 gun, a pistol, and other valuable goods in the farmer’s maroon colored Nissan double cab 97-model bakkie, registration number DNR516L.

The suspects tied up a worker who managed to free himself and alerted the farming community and police.

Brig. Motlafela Mojapelo said that the house belongs to Hendrik Jose Felix (65) and assumes that Ramalo is his uncle. Mojapela said that Felix was woken up around 1:00 when he heard the dogs bark and went outside to investigate. Felix did not see anybody and went back to sleep.

The police are investigating the matter and the suspects are still at large.

Ramalo was taken to hospital for treatment.
