Farm attack averted, farmer fires warning shot, suspects flee, Uitkyk

A farm attack was averted in Uitkyk, Mokopane (Potgietersrus) in the the Limpopo province of South Africa. The owner of a smallholding heard a knocking sound outside his front door just after 12 o’clock on the afternoon of 11 July 2022.

Upon further investigation, he did not notice anything suspicious, but most importantly, he did not go outside. Instead he fired a warning shot after which he heard suspects running off.

HPG, Bassopa Security and local farmers responded.

The responders found that the office was broken into and two solar batteries, inverter, solar panels, laptop and a trench digger’s battery were stolen.

Tracks were followed up to the main dirt road where the suspicious tracks were found in and out of the property. Further tracks were followed up to the Percy Fyfe, Mashashane tar road.

Presumably some of the stolen items were still hidden in the bushes. Case was handed over to SAPS for further investigation.
