A family from Ga-Chuene, outside Polokwane, is pleading for justice after their two sons were allegedly severely assaulted by an initiation school owner in June. Nearly two months later, no arrests have been made, leaving the Kgopa family frustrated with the slow progress of the police investigation.

Violent Altercation Leaves Brothers Injured, Traumatized

According to the Kgopa family, the incident occurred when David (24) and Samuel (19) were helping their father build a shack at their home. A group of female initiates reportedly roamed the community, assaulting people and attempting to break the family’s fence. The brothers intervened to protect their property, leading the initiates to retreat and report the matter to their initiation school owner.

The owner allegedly returned enraged and attacked the siblings, striking David on the head with a sharp object, causing him to lose consciousness. Samuel was hit on the left arm. Realizing the severity of their injuries, the owner took the brothers to a private doctor, who referred David to the hospital due to his critical head injury.

Victims Speak Out: Lives Changed Forever

David, still recovering from his injuries, says the assault has drastically altered his life. “I suffered severe head injuries that have changed my quality of life. I want justice, and I’m pleading with the police to do their job,” he said.

Samuel, who was attending school at the time, says the trauma has left him unable to focus on his studies. “This injury really hurt me because now I’m unable to further my studies. It has changed a lot in me. I can tell that I’m no longer the same,” he shared.

Family Frustrated with Police Delays

The family says they opened two assault cases, but the investigation has stalled. “The police are moving at a snail’s pace,” said a distressed family member. “It is heartbreaking because my sons have suffered injuries. One of them suffered a severe head injury. I just want justice for my sons.”

Authorities Respond

Traditional affairs authorities have acknowledged the incident and called for a thorough investigation. “We call upon the police to look into this matter because it is clearly a criminal case,” a representative stated, adding that the initiation school owner’s conduct should be scrutinized, possibly affecting future permits.

Police confirmed that assault cases are under investigation and an arrest is “imminent,” citing the need to gather crucial evidence.

As the Kgopa family waits for justice, their sons continue to struggle with physical and emotional scars, hoping that accountability will bring them closure.
