Driving school instructors are expected to sincerely instruct the driving licence applicants to drive in order to ensure that driving licences are issued to the qualifying individuals, but Ntsieni Savhuli (30) who is a driving school instructor in one of the driving schools at Sibasa decided to do the opposite by demanding gratification.
The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation received a complaint about driving school instructors and traffic station examiners who were demanding gratification from the driving licence applicants in order to quickly get their driving licences.
It was reported that the applicants would pay a minimum of R1500-00 to seal the deal.
This was brought to the attention of the Hawks who conducted an undercover operation that resulted in the arrest of Ntsieni Savhuli and Sibasa Traffic Station examiner for corruption at the traffic station on 22 November 2019.
Savhuli was out on R5000-00 bail until he was convicted and sentenced to R10 000-00 or three years imprisonment by the Giyani Specialised Commercial Crimes court on Friday, 08 April 2022.
His co-accused was acquitted during their trial.
